Who has acupuncture?

Many people come to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom or condition, such as: headaches, migraines, pain relief, digestive disorders, infertility, high blood pressure, menstrual problems, addiction, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain or weakness, problems with circulation, depression, facial paralysis, fibrositis, hay fever, indeterminate aches and pains, ME, psychological disorders, rheumatism, sciatica, skin conditions, tiredness, ulcers or urinary problems.

neckThousands of years of practice and research have shown that acupuncture is effective in helping a vast number of conditions.

The effect of good acupuncture, however, is more than simply curing symptoms. When you come for acupuncture, diagnosis and treatment will be focused on you and your constitution as well as your symptoms. As a result, you will also feel better in a general way. Hence the frequent comment, “I’m feeling better in myself”, referring to such things as increased energy and vitality, greater enjoyment of life, greater confidence, better sleep and a more normal appetite.

Focusing treatment on you rather than your disease is appropriate when you feel unwell in yourself, but do not have the kind of complaint, physical or otherwise that allows you to present yourself as sick – indeed based on medical checks, you may have been told that there is nothing wrong.

You may be aware of a gradual deterioration in energy levels and believe that you need a tonic to prevent symptoms from appearing. Acupuncture is appropriate in this case too, and you can come for preventative treatment that is aimed at maintaining health and improved wellbeing.
